Vinyl Collective DJ & Underworld Sounds producer Grandsolo brings you the best of the real underground, from breaks & funk, hip hop classics, house, trip hop & more. Take a dive into his music collection and you’ll be lost for days; for his arsenal of music is as vast as the sea is wide, and his mixes are seamless, letting you flow from one jam to the next without missing a beat. 

A native of Manchester, England, Grandsolo was raised in the Bronx (233rd & Edenwald) during a time when hip-hop and breaks were making moves and hitting hard. Grandsolo remembers first touching a turntable in 1985; he was 12 years old and the record was “Good Times” by Chic. “There was a guy renting the basement apartment in my parents’ house, and he had his DJ equipment set up,” he says. “A couple of times he let me come down and rock a little bit. And I loved it.” And thus began his life-long love affair with vinyl and all things music. Fast forward 10 years to SUNY Albany, Grandsolo lands his first radio show, and brings his musical prowess to the public. The show was the Lower Level Radio Show, and further displayed his penchant for bringing listeners back to the roots, as he hit his listeners in the head with a mix of deep funk, soul, rare breaks, and world music. The following year he was hired to do his first college party, a backyard jam where he rocked off of one turntable and a walkman (who says you need two turntables and a mic?). 

These days Grandsolo is still married to the music; you can catch him stirring up musical concoctions in his lab somewhere in New Jersey, playing at private parties, and most notably, producing his weekly show SoulFresh Sundays, airing from 6p-10p, on We Take No Requests Radio (www.wtnrradio.com). When asked about his passion and love of rocking the wheels of steel, and what keeps him doing it 15 years later, his answer was a perfect as it gets: “I don’t know; you just do it. I’m a DJ, I play music, it’s what I do"
